Day Trip to London

Wanted to make the most of a morning in London, so joined a London Walk in Camden Town. Wow, I didn't realise what a hot bed of musical talent and 'Inde' music labels the district was. Every generation of musicians seems to cut their teeth here before conquoring the world stage. It's also the heart of Goth London. The place pumps at night with young people partying to every conceivable music type. I've wondered on previous trips why Camden Park tube station closes mid-afternoon. Now I know - it would be a dangerous grid lock. The place was PUMPING at 11am. To go to Camden Town in the afternoon and evening you have to walk from the two surrouding tubes to spread the crowd out. Must go one evening to sample the vibe.

Public Art in the Horse Markets, Camden Town

During the day it has the most amazing maze of markets. If only I'd had more time... as my guide said... plenty of 'tat' but some great originals and local craft talent. It seems the fashion designers also cut their teeth in the markets here before hitting the big time. The smell of the West African curries...Indian curries, asian noodles... the markets spread from the old canal freight warehouses, through old stables, under bridge arches, across streets. There seems to be a 'co-operation' between the various land lords who have realised redevelopment to improve the market stalls will reap them much more than letting it get run down like most markets and they are spending millions on public space art.

Had to leave to catch the Eurostar. Rain cheque posted on this destination :)
